Al-Seyada Party Calls for Moratorium of Death Sentences Pending Amnesty Law
Al Seyada Party MP Salim Issawi issued an invitation to President Abdul Latif Rashid; To suspend death sentences in the country until the amnesty law is passed to achieve political stability and prevent legal chaos.
At a press conference held in Parliament House, with the participation of other MPs, Issawi stressed the importance of suspending executions in the light of the consensus on the Amnesty Act among members of Parliament, and stressed the need not to destabilize the political landscape and allow political negotiations to proceed smoothly to approve it.
“The current political stability was based on understandings among the various political blocs to implement the Government's programme and noted that the recent mass executions had raised concerns about the intentions of the authorities regarding the amnesty law, and called for justice and amnesty for the oppressed who were in prison.”Said Al Issawi
This call for a moratorium on death sentences and waiting until the amnesty law is legislated are seen as efforts to stabilize and prevent legal chaos. The consensus among political parties on this issue reflects Iraq's aspiration for justice and reconciliation in the country.
